The is our primary formula and the foundation of the Protazen® system. It's a natural blend of herbs, vitamins, and very specific amino acids that are precursors to dopamine, other catecholamines, and serotonin. It's formulated to help promote positive moods, focus, memory, cognitive function, and overall mental wellbeing.*

- How It Works -

As with any organ, substances in the diet such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and essential fatty acids (omega 3) can affect brain chemistry and function.1 Until recently, it had not been fully accepted that nutrition had any influence on brain health. Today, some foods and supplements are being recognized for their support of emotional wellness. There is now enough documented evidence to assert that certain amino acids affect the synthesis and release of neurotransmitters (brain chemicals). However, their effects on brain function are not fully understood by the mainstream medical community. This lack of understanding often leads to prescription drugs as a first line of defense for a mood imbalance, when simply supplementing the diet with a natural remedy may prove sufficient.

Supplements on a plate

Studies have shown that the diet does indeed influence brain function. Brains cells require specific nutrients to produce neurotransmitters (chemical messengers in the brain). Neurotransmitters, including dopamineother catecholamines, and serotonin, help regulate our moods and emotions. When the brain is under emotional stress, it can become depleted of these key neurotransmitters.2,3,4 Therefore, it is reasonable to suggest, supplementing the diet with the Protazen® system of supplements can promote the natural production of neurotransmitters. Additionally, because these precursors are considered food product, they are relatively safe natural remedies.5

Does Protazen Work?

- Ingredients -

The "Base" is our primary formula and the foundation of the Protazen® philosophy.  This blend is formulated to address most areas of mental wellness and balance. It contains 11 ingredients, including the key amino acids L-Tyrosine and DL-Phenylalanine that support the production of key neurotransmitters – chemical messengers in the brain that help regulate mood and emotion.

Protazen Ingredients/Supplement Facts

Below is more detail about the ingredients in the Protazen® Base Formula, and how they can support your mental health:

Vitamin B-1 (Thiamine) plays an important role in the brain's glucose metabolism – how the brain generates fuel (energy). Deficiency of B-1 can lead to loss of appetite, weakness, nervous irritability, insomnia, aches & pains, and low moods. Thiamine deficiency can also lead to the stress and death of neurons, loss of memory, plaque formation — all markers of Alzheimer’s disease.  Supporting Research...>

L-Tyrosine is an essential amino acid that, once in the brain, is a precursor of key neurotransmitters like dopamine and other catecholamines. This essential amino acid is found in many protein rich foods (i.e. turkey, chicken, duck, pork, eggs, dairy products) and is a necessary part of a healthy diet. Even if you consume these foods, it is still possible that your consumption levels are not adequate to support proper brain function. L-Tyrosine has been found to support thyroid hormone levels, mood, concentration, productivity, coping ability, metabolism, and can promote endurance under stress. Women who take oral contraceptives often have lower levels of Tyrosine; which may be a link between mood swings and oral contraceptives.  Supporting Research…>

Herb-of-Grace (Bacopa Monnieri) is considered a rejuvenating herb for nerve and brain cells. Some studies have shown that this herb increases protein synthesis in the brain, increasing intelligence, longevity, and short-term memory. It also has calming effects. Several studies have substantiated Bacopa's nootropic benefit in humans. There is evidence for potential mitigation of dementia, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's, and epilepsy. Supporting Research…>

Lemon Balm Leaf Powder can relax the nervous system promoting normal sleep. It can also help support the female reproductive system by easing tension and cramping during menses.

Passion Flower (Passiflorra incarnata) It has been used by the native people of North, Central, and South America for centuries, and is still prescribed by physicians in Europe as a natural calming agent and relaxant.Supporting Research…>

DL-Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid that is recognized for being the precursor for many proteins; namely tyrosine, which in turn is a precursor to dopamine and other catecholamines. Phenylalanine is a part of numerous substances in the brain that affect mood, pain, memory, and appetite. Studies suggest (but do not prove) DL-Phenylalanine may have anti-depressive properties and may be effective in reducing low moods and countering fatigue.

Gastrodia (Gastrodia elata) is an expensive herbal extract that is native to the Far East. Gastrodia is first mentioned in the Shennong Bencao Jing, which was compiled around A.D. 100.  It is said to have sedative and analgesic properties.

DMAE is a naturally occurring mild cerebral stimulating nutrient found in brain foods such as anchovies and sardines. It has been found to NOT effect heart rate, blood pressure and doesn’t induce “jitteriness.” Researches have found DMAE to increase alertness, improve concentration, promote assertiveness, increase motivation, support mood, and increase daytime energy.Supporting Research…>

SAM-e (S-adenosyl-L-methionine disulfate p-toluenesulfonate) is a compound that is produced naturally in the body from the essential amino acid methionine. SAM-e plays a role in various biochemical reactions, including the formation of key neurotransmitters. Although SAM-e has only been on the market in the US since 1999, it has been studied for decades internationally and is sold as a prescription drug in Spain, Italy, Russia and Germany.

Bioperine® is an herbal extract from the pepper plant that, when consumed along with vitamin and mineral nutrients, increases the bio-availability (the absorption and utilization) of the nutrients.

Huperzine A (Huperzia serrata) is an alkaloid found in the herb Huperzia serrata a.k.a Toothed Clubmoss. It has been found to regulate the breakdown of acetylcholine, an important substance needed by the nervous system to transmit information from cell to cell. In China, HupA is being studied to see if it improves cognitive abilities in Alzheimer’s patients.  It may also be helpful in supporting memory and the learning ability of healthy individuals.  However, it is important to remember that clinical trials are still in the early stages.
